Biografia
Ettore Novellino, born in Montemarano (Italy) on the 08/15/50,
graduated with the grade of Summa Cum Laude in Pharmacy. After his
graduation he started his research activity at the Faculty of Pharmacy
of the University "Federico II" of Naples as:
a. Research Fellow from 5/1/75 to 5/31/78
b. Assistant Professor and Lecturer of Medicinal and Toxicological Chemistry from 6/1/78 to 8/4/85
c. Associate Professor from 8/5/85 to 10/31/94
d. Full Professor of Medicinal and Toxicological Chemistry
e. Permanent member of the committee for the recruitment of new
associate professors at the Italian Ministry of University and Research
f. Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy University "Federico II" of Naples from 9/1/00 to 10/30/06
g. President of the Permanent Conference of the Deans of the Italian Faculties of Pharmacy from 1/03 till now
Since 1974 till now professor Ettore Novellino has been involved in the
research in the Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Modeling fields at
the Bioorganic Chemistry Institute (University of Naples), at the Dept.
of Medicinal Sciences (University of Salerno) where he was the
principal investigator of the Molecular Discovery laboratory, and he
currently works at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry (University of
Naples).
Since 1986 prof. Ettore Novellino has been working in several laboratories outside Italy:
a. The Department of Chemistry at the Pomona College in Claremont, CA–USA;
b. Computational Molecular Graphics Lab of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, UCSF, CA–USA;
c. Computer Graphics Lab "Abbott Laboratories", Chicago–USA;
d. Computational Analysis Lab, Freie Universitat, Berlin, Germany;
e. Structural and Computational Chemistry Centre, Faculty of Pharmacy, Zurich, Switzerland;
In the aforementioned research periods Prof. Ettore Novellino has had
the opportunity to apprehend and apply the most sophisticated
computational chemistry techniques useful the drug discovery process.
Back in Italy he has set up his own computational chemistry laboratory
in which the drug-receptor interactions are actively studied and new
potential drugs are designed for the most common and severe diseases.
For his research activity and the achieved results he has received
several awards and has been invited to give several oral presentations
in international symposiums (i.e. Gordon Research Conferences,
Frontiers of Sciences, USA 1991 and 1995)
In 1996 he has organized the Italian National Congress of Medicinal
Chemisty (Paestum September 1996) which is the most important national
congress for the diffusion of the most recent discoveries in the
medicinal chemistry field. He has been recently appointed as member of
the Scientific Committee of the World Medicinal Chemistry Society. In
2002 he has organized for the second time the Italian National Congress
of Medicinal Chemisty (Naples 2002).
Since 1999 he is member of the International Editorial Boars the
Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modeling, one of the most important
peer reviewed international journals in the field of molecular modeling.
